Allison “Allie” Louise Foss, 38, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Dysart and La Porte City, passed away unexpectedly on February 26, 2024. She was born on December 27, 1985, in Iowa City, the daughter of Wendy McKnight and David Foss. Allie graduated in 2005 from Union High School and never went too far, staying in the area near her family. On April 17, 2014, she found her main purpose in life, becoming a mother to Maxon David. Those two were two peas in a pod, very rarely apart for long. She loved being Max’s Mama and would always say, “I love that kid. He’s my favorite,” with a big smile on her face.
Allie loved to love on people! She made friends wherever she went, literally… even a store clerk. She kept busy thrift shopping and refurbishing treasures she would find for others. She loved spending time with family and friends and always Max, often at the river or anywhere in nature she could find a cool rock or petrified branch. She loved going to concerts and anywhere with friends. She had a way of making everyone feel like family.
Allie, better known as “Goober”, was always finding ways to make people laugh, even at her own expense. For many years Allie worked as a caregiver for special needs. She was always in customer service mode everywhere she went. Her sense of humor and upbeat persona kept everyone on their toes at work and in daily life. She was accident prone to say the least but made the best of every situation. Her happiness was contagious and took pride in smart alec comments often quoting her beloved grandfather, the Captain (aka HooHoo), who she was a caregiver for many years.
Allie was preceded in death by grandparents, Captain Lee D. Foss, Joanne (Thompson) Foss, Rose McKnight and an uncle, JP Sauer. She is survived by her fiancé, Dustin Cary; a son, Maxon David Foss; her mother, Wendy (Mack) Estep of Waterloo; her father, David (Kim Ortiz) Foss of La Porte City; a sister, Abbie (Jesse) Hoppe of Dysart; 2 step sisters, Elizabeth (Ricky Kreger) Soard and Kristen (Shelby Tapp) Whitson; a step brother, Richard (Candace) Whitson; 2 aunts, Susan Selk and Melissa Sauer; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life and visitation will be held at a later date.
