Arsenio Rashad Smith, 35, of Waterloo, Iowa, Sadly passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026. Surrounded by his loved ones.
Arsenio was born on August 9, 1990, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Corine "Cricket" Jones and Robert Earl Smith. He graduated from Waterloo West High School with the Class of 2008.
In 2019, Arsenio fulfilled his entrepreneurial dream by establishing Granny Gang, a business that reflected his creativity, determination, and passion. He was known for his outgoing personality and his love of life. Arsenio enjoyed playing PlayStation, traveling, experiencing exotic restaurants, cooking, gardening—just like his beloved grandmother, casinos, and, most importantly, spending time with his family and friends. His kindness, laughter, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Corine "Cricket" Jones of Waterloo, IA; father, Robert Earl Smith of Omaha, NE; daughter, Ariya Jasmine Smith of Waterloo, IA; Big Sister, Shannon McDermott of Des Moines, IA; sisters, Sonya Harmon of Des Moines, IA and Hope Hilson of Rockford, IL; brother, William Hilson of Rockford, IL; significant other, Nequita Stevenson of Waterloo, IA; goddaughter, Dream Kellogg of Phoenix, AZ; godson, Chase Ross of Waterloo, IA; nephews, Malik Shavers and Kahlil Jackson, both of Des Moines, IA; niece, Amira Shavers of Des Moines, IA; along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Vastie Jones and Thorton "Dick" Gary; paternal grandparents, Robert Smith, and Lucille "Goldie" Smith; brother-in-law, James McDermott; four uncles; and three aunts.
Arsenio will be remembered for his entrepreneurial spirit, his love for his family, his generous heart, and the lasting impact he made on everyone who knew him. His memory will be treasured always.
