Barbara Ann (Newton) Laue was born March 5th, 1946, in Brookings, South Dakota. Her loving parents were Frederic and Mildred (Friese) Newton. She joined her brother, Stanton, to complete their family. Barb graduated from Huron, South Dakota high school in 1964. Barbara went off to college at Northern State College (now University) in Aberdeen, SD to study elementary education and music.
It was in college where she met her future husband, Edward Laue. They were married on July 10th, 1966, in Huron, SD.
The joy of her life was her daughter, Kristen Ann, who was born in 1967.
In 1971 the family move to Waterloo, IA. Barb loved her job as a special education para professional. She was also the model director for Mid-America Institute of Professional Photography (MAIPP). Her last job before she retired was assistant manager for Iowa Hearing Aid Clinic.
Barbara passed away November 6th, 2023, at the age of 77. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Stanton, her husband Edward and her dearest close friend Norma Fobian. She is survived by her daughter, Kristen (Tom) Ockerman of Davenport, IA; Three grandchildren Patrick (Samantha) Connell of Lake Mills, WI, Elizabeth Connell of Davenport, IA, Nicholas (Luke) Connell of Dublin, CA; Two Step-Grandchildren Jason (Ashley) Ockerman of Davenport, IA and Lindsay Ockerman of Davenport, IA; and four Great-Grandchildren Lillian (Patrick and Samantha), Eleanor (Patrick and Samantha), Gabriella (Elizabeth), and Olivia (Jason and Ashley); Nieces Susan (Phil) Richter and Nephew Jeff (Laticia) Newton; Cousins Marvelle (Gayne) Stone, Sharee (Al) Smeby, and Mitzi Heath.
She also cared deeply for her “bonus” children David Meaney, Maria Moothart, Mike (Kay) Meaney, Tom (Nancy) Meaney, Merce (Bruce) Hayes, Grace (Troy) Ivey, Phil (Lisa) Meaney, and Sheila (Jason) Richter.
The memorial service will be on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 12:30 PM, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. The visitation will be on Friday, November 10, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories.
