Bruce Joseph Moudry of Evansdale, IA, passed away in his happy place, “the big woods,” with his wife and twin brother by his side on Thursday, September 25, 2025. He was 76 years old.
Bruce was born on March 23, 1949, in Cresco, IA, to Edward and Corrine (Kapler) Moudry. He was raised on a farm just outside of Protivin, IA, and attended Rudolphinum High School, graduating in 1968. He went on to become an autobody technician after receiving his associate’s degree at Northeast Iowa Community College in Calmar, IA. He met the love of his life, Linda Caffrey, and they married on September 2, 1972, in Schley, IA, spending 53 wonderful years together. They had two children together, Todd and Nick.
While growing up on the farm, Bruce started to develop his unique craftsmanship of tinkering and working on things. He had an uncanny ability to fix anything. He even started to do demo derbies, which he enjoyed. Bruce worked for various body shops before he started Diamonds Body Shop in Evansdale, IA, with his friend, Jim McNally. Later, he sold his half of the business to Jim but continued to work there until he retired. However, Bruce’s love of building and fixing things never left his heart. He owned a building he called his “Hobby Shop,” where he would work every day on projects for people. His community of friends would stop by daily to visit and talk about the vehicles he was working on. Over the years, he has repaired hundreds of vehicles and motorcycles. He proudly rebuilt his three collector cars and three motorcycles.
In 2006, he started Moudry Properties with his son, Todd, and they would often be seen together working on their many properties. When not busy at the business, they shared a passion for riding motorcycles, demo derbies, hunting, and working on cars.
Bruce always made time for his grandchildren. He looked forward to summer trips to visit his son Nick and family in Elkins Park, PA. One highlight was taking his grandson, Nate to Applebee's. Throughout the years, he was delighted to play with Elizabeth, his granddaughter, at Angels Park located in their backyard.
When not working, Bruce enjoyed riding motorcycles with his friends, Dennis, Jim, Harley, his brother Brian, and many others. He was an avid hunter who enjoyed hunting deer in the big woods. When he wasn’t hunting, he would work on the property.
Bruce and Linda loved to do things together. She was his cherished wife, whom he lovingly called Pearl. They could be seen riding bikes across town, going on long walks, and visiting local casinos, with Mystic Lake in St. Paul, MN, being their favorite. Most recently, they started to play Qwirkle, with Linda winning most of the time, and Bruce was fantastic at losing. They enjoyed traveling and have visited New York City, Las Vegas, Pennsylvania, Canada, England, France, and many other places. One of Bruce’s favorite places to visit was the Black Hills, which he visited many times during his life. Bruce and Linda would often stay at, “The Hilton,” which was a cabin on their property in the big woods.
Beyond being a devoted husband and father, Bruce opened his heart to service, involved as an active member of Rolling Thunder, Inc. He was a lifetime donor to The Red Cross and, in his selfless spirit, became an organ donor, leaving a legacy that would touch the lives of many.
Above all else, Bruce’s biggest love in life was his wife and family. He loved being a father and providing for his family. He loved sharing as many memories with them as he could.
Bruce lived every day to the fullest and always with a smile. His smile could light up a room. He was a very generous man, giving his time, talent, and love to anyone he encountered. He considered everyone his friend. He will be missed beyond measure.
Bruce is preceded in death by his parents; one infant son, Mark; and a brother-in-law, Les Zapotocny.
He is survived by his wife, Linda of Evansdale, IA; two sons, Todd ( Annette) Moudry of Elk Run Heights, IA, and Nick (Lindsay) Moudry of Elkins Park, PA; two grandchildren, Nathan Mark Moudry and Elizabeth Moudry; one step grandson, Liam; his twin brother, Brian (Gloria) Moudry of New Hampton, IA; two sisters, Martha (Ernest) Fencl of Cresco, IA, and Monica Zapotocny of also of Cresco, IA; and the Caffrey family, Kathy, John, Gerry (deceased), Bill, Deb, and Mike.
