Cindy Sue Hartley

Cindy Sue Hartley of Waterloo, IA, passed away at home on Monday, June 23, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was 68 years old.

Cindy was born on December 28, 1956, to Luther and Norma (Howell) Hartley. In 1975, she graduated from Highland High School in Riverside, IA. After graduating, she earned her nursing degree from Hawkeye Community College. Cindy worked for the YWCA as the playroom coordinator for many years. She then continued her career as a Para for the Waterloo Community Schools, retiring in 2024.

Cindy loved planting flowers, thrift shopping, and shooting pool. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Cindy also had two fur babies, Charlie and Stella, who were her joy; her daughters would often joke that she liked them better.

Cindy is survived by her two daughters, Sara Schmit of Cedar Falls, IA, and Elisa (Jason) Garcia of Waterloo, IA; grandchildren Nathaniel (Brooke) Vilovchik, Kayla (Hunt) Vilovchik-Kinniard, Haeley (David) Chubok, Madisyn (Kaleb) Vilovchik, Mackenzie Barfels, Joseph Cutsforth, Ashlynn Schmit, and Keegan Schmit; great-grandchildren Ariana, Levi, Bray’Leigh, Malachi,Nathaniel; six siblings; and her two fur babies, Charlie and Stella.

Cindy is preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Norma, and special friend Ruth.
