David Frederick
Schoepske
October 18, 1928 – April 23, 2026
David Schoepske of Waterloo, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home on April 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was 97.
Born in Waterloo in 1928, David was the son of Frederick and Martha Schoepske. He graduated from Waterloo East High School in the late 1940s and began working at a young age. His career at General Sheet Metal spanned nearly five decades, reflecting his strong work ethic and dedication.
David served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. In recognition of his service and dedication to his country, he received the Korean Service Medal, three Bronze Service Stars, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, and the United Nations Service Medal. He carried that sense of duty and pride throughout his life.
In the early 1950s, David married Darlene Chase in Waterloo. Together, they raised four children. Darlene preceded him in death in 2017.
David enjoyed working in his shop, sharing his skills with family, attending car shows, and contributing to restoration projects. He was active in veterans’ organizations and his church, where his faith and commitment to service guided his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, his siblings, and a son-in-law Dana Walker. He leaves behind his devoted children: Michael (Connie) Schoepske of Strafford, Missouri; Timothy (Kay) Schoepske of Waterloo, Iowa; Sandy Walker of Waterloo, Iowa; and Debbie (Brad) Andreassen of Lakeland, Minnesota. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Friday, May 1, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Parrott & Wood Funeral Home in Waterloo. Funeral services will take place Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery with military honors.
Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Building Fund or Valley Lutheran School.
