David Paul Sutton of Waterloo, IA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the age of 64. Born on August 18, 1961, in Waterloo to Clodus and Joanne (Dempewolf) Sutton, David’s life was filled with kindness, love, and a deep devotion to his family and friends.

David’s journey began in the neighborhood of Elk Run Heights, where he spent his early years. He later moved to the farm in Butler County, IA, as a teenager—an experience that instilled in him a love for open spaces and the simple joys of rural living. He proudly graduated from Allison-Bristow High School in 1980, an achievement that marked his dedication and set the tone for his strong work ethic throughout his life.

After high school, David began his working life at Goodwill, taking pride in every task. His determination and independence shone through when he moved into his own apartment—an accomplishment he cherished deeply. Eventually, he found enjoyable work at Taco Bell, a place where his love of conversation and connection with others found its perfect home.

David’s passions extended far beyond work. Travel was a source of great joy to him, providing treasured memories from trips to South Dakota, Las Vegas, and, most recently, Tennessee. He loved dining out, especially at his favorite local spot, Highway 63 Diner, where he could often be found savoring good food and friendly company.

Known as a true people person, David delighted in walking and striking up conversations with everyone he met. His zest for these simple pleasures created countless bonds and warmed the hearts of all who knew him. He was especially close to his cousin George, whose outings together often led David to dance the night away, radiating happiness and laughter.

David’s heart belonged to his family. He cherished his time with his sisters—Debbie Dolan of Evansdale, IA; Diane (Rick) Kinzebach of Cedar Falls, IA; and Theresa Sutton of Waterloo, IA. His love for his numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family knew no bounds. Even after his parents, Clodus and Joanne, and his sister, Gail Schweer, passed away, David honored their memory, celebrating their birthdays and holidays with as much reverence and joy as when they were alive. Holidays especially brought out the childlike wonder in him, a reflection of his joyful, generous spirit.

David found happiness in the simple things—bowling, watching TV Land, and enjoying cartoons. He remained a big kid at heart, embracing every moment with curiosity and laughter.

To those who knew and loved him, David Sutton will be remembered not only for his open heart and infectious smile but also for the extraordinary way he celebrated the people around him. His legacy is one of warmth, conversation, laughter, and unwavering devotion to family.

A visitation will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, followed by services at 1:00 pm at Parrott and Wood Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate the remarkable life of David Paul Sutton—a gentle soul, dearly loved, and deeply missed.
