Donald Lee Maddex, 86, of Waterloo, passed away at Unity Point-Allen Hospital on May 5, 2026.
Don was born on February 4, 1940 in Shelbina, Missouri to Weldon Roscoe Maddex and Lucy Laverne (Saunders) Maddex. They moved to Iowa in 1946. He graduated from Orange Township School in Waterloo with the class of 1958. He was united in marriage to Inetta Knapp on July 11, 1959. They later divorced. On October 10, 1970, he was united in marriage to Patricia (Hill) Henry. They were approaching their fifty-sixth wedding anniversary.
Don and Pat owned a home at Holiday Lake in Brooklyn, Iowa for thirty years creating an immeasurable amount of unforgettable memories with family and friends. Through different phases in life, he enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, golfing, playing pool, playing cribbage, and bowling. His most favorite pastime though was playing the guitar and singing. He performed with the bands Country Pleasure and the Holiday Lakers and too many large and small jam sessions to even begin to count. Along with that love of music, there was dancing. He was know for his smooth two-stepping and his oh-so-infamous "Donny Dance" - if you know, you know. Then there were the TINKS - a term that speaks for itself.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Robert Maddex (Kris) of Hartland, WI, Sean Henry (Jo) of Raymond, and Craig Henry (Diane) of Waterloo; three daughters, Meachelle Mehmen (Doug Dutler) of Evansdale, Dawn Passes (John) of Waterloo, and Tracia Ross of Washburn; fifteen grandchildren and thirty-six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Larry, grandson Cody Schroedermeier, and many beloved relatives and friends.
Don was a loyal, fun-loving, and sometimes stubborn man who manuevered through the trials and triumps of life to live a life that could only be described by him as...Bu-ful!
