Dorothy Arlene Smith

Dorothy Arlene Smith was born on December 10, 1936, in Mason City, Washington, the daughter of Thurlow and Jonnye Lee Gibson. 

She was married to Bill Payne and later divorced.  Dorothy then married Kenneth Smith.  The couple made their home in Evansdale.  She spent many years working for the Cedar Falls School System until her retirement.  Dorothy was a member of Crosspoint Church in Dysart and enjoyed Bible studies, knitting, sewing, gardening, and adventures with Sharron Lynn.  Dorothy died at the age of 86 on April 21, 2023, at her home.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Kenneth; her ex-husband, Bill; a daughter, Cindy Payne; a son, Craig Payne; a grandson, Travis Vaughn; and a great grandson, Julian Payne.  Dorothy is survived by her children, William Payne, Chrstine Vaughn, and Bobbi Morley; 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.  The memorial service will be on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at 2:00 PM, at Parrott and Wood Chapel of Memories in Waterloo.  There will be a visitation for an hour prior to the service.
