Edwin Dewey MacLennan, a cherished resident of Waterloo, Iowa, passed away at home on December 10, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on August 2, 1939, in Waterloo, Edwin was the beloved son of John and Thelma (Courtney) MacLennan.

Edwin's journey through life began with his education at Waterloo West High School, but his commitment to service led him to the United States Army, where he enlisted in January 1963. With remarkable dedication, he earned accolades as a Sharpshooter (Rifle) and received the Good Conduct Medal before being honorably discharged in January 1969.

Following his military service, Edwin transitioned to civilian life, becoming a respected salesman for various local companies. He found a home at Powers Manufacturing, where he dedicated many years before retiring. Alongside his professional endeavors, Edwin demonstrated his commitment to education by attending Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, where he proudly earned his GED.

In 1972, Edwin married the love of his life, Diana Hellman. Together, they built a nurturing home on an acreage in Waterloo and raised their wonderful son, Dusty. For over four decades, their house became a fortress of love and cherished memories, one that Edwin remained in until his passing. The heartache of losing Diana on October 6, 2019, was profound, yet Edwin found solace in the bonds of friendship and family.

Throughout his life, Edwin had a deep appreciation for nature and adventure. He and Diana were often seen embarking on salmon fishing trips up north or enjoying the excitement of stock car races at Tunis Speedway with Dusty. Edwin’s passion for fishing drew him frequently to Alma, Wisconsin, where he delighted in the tranquility of the waters, and he relished the thrill of trapping. Even as time passed, his love for watching sports remained steadfast.

The light of Edwin’s life was undoubtedly his granddaughter, Evelyn. She brought immense joy to his days, and their bond was one filled with love and laughter, illuminating his world even in challenging times.

Edwin was blessed to have wonderful friendships with neighbors Russ Frisch, Harvie Fleming, and Bill Rollison. Their companionship became especially vital after the loss of Diana, as they supported one another through life's challenges, sharing laughter and the warmth of camaraderie.

Though Edwin is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Diana, two brothers, Douglas MacLennan and Robert McDonald, and two sisters, Patsy Ann Burnell and Phyllis Majewski, his spirit will endure through the lives he touched.

He is survived by his son, Dusty (Dawn) MacLennan of Mechanicsville, IA; two brothers, Dennis (Diane) MacLennan and Dean (Linda) Long; three sisters, DeeAnne (Larry) Wuebker, Carolyn Krabill, and Susan (Ron) Fendt; along with his dear friends and the bright star of his life, granddaughter Evelyn.

Edwin Dewey MacLennan will be fondly remembered for his unwavering kindness, adventurous spirit, and the love he showered upon his family and friends. His legacy of warmth, dedication, and the unyielding bond of family will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
