Gary Wayne Dake, 80, of Hudson, died Saturday, June 6, at home. He was born April 4, 1946, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Marvin and Minnie Dake. He married Carol Thierer on March 8, 1968, in Dysart.

Gary graduated from Dysart High School, and in 1973 he earned a degree in accounting from the University of Northern Iowa. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked for the Internal Revenue Service for 40 years before retiring in 2008.

Gary is survived by three sons, Robert, Craig, and Jeffrey, all of Hudson; a daughter, Tammy (Matt) Hamilton of Hudson; two grandchildren, Bradley (Mikayla) Dake and Jennavieve Dake; two step-grandchildren, Miles (Katherine) Hamilton and Connor (Elise) Hamilton; two great-grandchildren, Charli Dake and Colson Dake; two sisters, Marilyn Peters and Diana Corkery; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; his parents; and a brother, Ron Dake.

In accordance with his wishes, Gary has been cremated, and no services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Parrott and Wood Funeral Home in Waterloo.
