Georgia Lois (Reeves) Eibey of Janesville, IA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at the age of 102.
Georgia was born on July 4, 1923, in Buckingham, IA, to Lewis and Olive (Conrad) Reeves. Proud of being a “firecracker baby,” she often remarked how lucky she was to have her very own day of celebration. She was the seventh of thirteen children and spent her early years growing up in a lively household surrounded by siblings. Georgia attended school in Dinsdale, IA, and helped with many responsibilities at home, including caring for her younger siblings, nieces, and nephews, as well as driving the tractor on the family farm.
As a young woman, Georgia attended Open Bible School in Des Moines, IA, and later worked at Woolworth’s. On February 6, 1947, she married Donald Eibey in Waterloo, IA. Together they raised three children—Linda, Larry, and Geary—whom she loved dearly. Donald and Georgia shared many wonderful years before his passing in 2007.
Much of Georgia’s life was dedicated to her family. She spent her early years of marriage as a homemaker, lovingly caring for her children. Once they were grown, she began working at J.C. Penney in Waterloo, where she retired after 18 years of service.
Even after retirement, Georgia enjoyed staying active. She worked several odd jobs, including as a reading assistant for the Golden Apple program at Edison Elementary in Waterloo. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and playing with her grandchildren—often joining them on the floor for games and laughter. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, happily giving them her full attention, sometimes jokingly “ignoring” her own kids in the process.
Her faith and friendships were also central to her life. Georgia taught Sunday School for many years, was active in the Red Hat Ladies group, and enjoyed monthly gatherings with her friends. She also dedicated time as a Brownie and Cub Scout leader, always finding ways to encourage and support others.
Georgia is survived by her three children: Linda (Jim) Bauer of Janesville, IA; Larry (Sheila) Eibey of Louisiana, MO; and Geary (Jean) Eibey of Janesville, IA; six grandchildren: Christy (Mike) Rykan, Scott (Tina) Eibey, Kim (Dale) Eastman, Melissa Eibey, April (Jarrod) Lowrie, and Andy (Lindsey) Eibey; nine great-grandchildren: Michael, Cameron, Kennedy, Laney, Keegan, Ally, Camden, Reece, and Juliana; three step-great-grandchildren: Tyler, Kylie, and Brody; and one sister, Rosiva Swanson of Mt. Vernon, IA.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and eleven siblings: Eva Reeves, Fern Brubaker, Grace McKinley, Fanny Reeves, Mary McKinley, Rosezella Reeves, Pearl McKinley, Bud Reeves, Jean McCombs, Roy Reeves, and Russell Reeves.
Services will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Parrott and Wood Funeral Home, 965 Home Plaza, Waterloo, IA. The family will greet friends at a visitation on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, from 9:30–10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
