Glen A. Hanson, 78, of Waterloo, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Ravenwood Specialty Care in Waterloo.
He was born on September 11, 1947, in Waterloo, the son of Elton and Elsie (Strelow) Hanson. Glen graduated from West High School in 1965 and attended Mason City Junior College. He worked at John Deere and was part owner of Henry’s Restaurant in Waterloo, which later became the Ranch Wagon Restaurant.
On December 18, 1965, Glen married Rosemary Lewis in Waterloo; they later divorced.
Glen moved to Phoenix, Arizona, for new work opportunities, including working with his brother Dale at a health food store and serving as an assistant manager at Walgreens. Later, he became a dual citizen in Mexico while building and selling houses there. He loved warm weather and enjoyed relaxing with an occasional beer at the bar. In 2019, due to declining health, Glen returned to Waterloo to be closer to family.
Glen was a member of the Waterloo Jaycees. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, yardwork, and gardening. Dogs were among his favorite animals—he loved playing with family dogs and sneaking them treats whenever he could. He especially cherished his canine companion, Layla. Glen also enjoyed scratch-off lottery tickets whenever he had the chance.
He is survived by his children: Tony (Denise) Hanson of Cedar Falls; Kim Hanson of Coon Rapids; and Bradley Hanson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; eight grandchildren: Jeffrey, Michael, Justen, Andrew, Heather, Aubrey, Aden, and Rayna; six great-grandchildren: Oliver, Lyle, Rowan, Adalyn, Ayden, and Rhett; his sister Joyce Armstrong of Waterloo; and brothers Carlton of Dunkerton and Dale of Marshalltown.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Ronnie; and sister Joann Armstrong.
A celebration of Glen’s life is being planned for June 2026, with details to be announced.
