Joan Marie Crawford

Joan Marie Crawford was born December 15, 1946, in Waterloo, IA, daughter of Paul and Winona Marvitz. She was a 1965 Waterloo West High School graduate. Joan was united in marriage to Rev. David Courtney in 1966 until his tragic death in 1974.  She found love again in 2007 and married Virgil Crawford.  She worked for Covenant Medical Center for 28 years before retiring.

Together Joan and Virgil enjoyed activities on their farm and taking care of their numerous animals, (6 horses, 3 dogs and 7 cats).  She also loved cooking, hosting gatherings, and making sure no one went hungry. Joan was an excellent decorator, so much so that she even participated in the Tour of Homes. Many times, Joan was asked to decorate the Church for Services and Weddings. Frequently she was asked to share her beautiful voice in Church services, she sang with her mother and dear friend Lois in a trio that always uplifted the listeners. She was very involved with her Church in many ways including Leader of Women’s World Fellowship. Whenever there was a need, Joan was there to fill it with open arms.    

Joan passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the age of 77. She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Carol Marvitz; one brother, Johnny Marvitz, her first husband, Rev. David Courtney and great grandson, Jaxson Thompson.  Joan is survived by her husband; her daughters, Jill (Wade)Thompson, Deb (Greg) Ewodlt; one son, Terry (Jamie) Crawford; brother David (Jean) Marvitz; 5 grandkids, Matt (Ashley)Thompson, Amanda Wendling, Rachel (Chris) Eick, Camie (Ty) Crawford-Miller, Crystal (Levi)

Crawford-Miller; and 13 great grand kids.
