Kevin Lavern Gaston of Waterloo, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the age of 64. Kevin was born on August 23, 1961, in Iowa, the cherished son of Roy and Betty (Brooks) Gaston. His early years were spent in the heartland where he developed a deep appreciation for family, friendship, and the joy of laughter that would become his hallmark.

Growing up, Kevin attended LaPorte City High School. During his high school years, he found camaraderie and competition as a proud member of both the wrestling and baseball teams. After graduation, Kevin began working for Trost Construction, a testament to his strong work ethic and willingness to put his hands to good use. Always aspiring and eager to learn more, Kevin later pursued further education and earned his associate’s degree in Autobody. It was a choice that led him to his position at Iowa Auto Rebuilders and, in time, to truck driving for the Coop in Traer.

Kevin’s jovial spirit left an indelible mark on everyone he met. He was truly the life of any gathering, known for sharing his jokes with anyone lucky enough to be within earshot. He especially delighted in sending playful videos to everyone, a gesture that captured his light-hearted approach to life. Conversations with Kevin were rarely brief—he loved to talk, and he did so with a contagious enthusiasm that brought joy to those around him.

His passion extended well beyond conversation. Kevin had a fondness for classic cars, particularly his prized Road Runner, and was a devoted fan of sports, especially the Green Bay Packers. Sweets were another source of joy for him, both in indulging himself and offering treats to others. Quiet moments often found Kevin watching his favorite show—the Trinity Movies—or relaxing to the sounds of rock music.

Family was central to Kevin’s life, and his love for them showed through in the bonds he nurtured across generations. He is survived by his children, Nick ( Lindsay Robbins) Gaston and Krystal Gaston, both of Waterloo, Iowa; as well as his grandchildren, Justis Moeller, Colton Gaston, Collin Gaston, Kynley Gaston, and Alicia Meeks. His memory extends even further to his great-grandchild, Grayson Moeller. Kevin’s supportive and caring spirit lives on in his sisters, Adonna Peters (Mikey) of Garrison, Iowa, and Kathy Garden (Mike) of Elk Run Heights, Iowa; and in his best friend, Charlie Jarkow. He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends, all of whom were touched by his humor, generosity, and steadfastness.

Kevin is preceded in death by his beloved parents; his brother, Sonny Gaston; his sister, Teresa Braack; and Lilly, his much-loved fur daughter.

The family will honor Kevin's remarkable life with a Celebration of Life on his birthday, August 25, 2026, 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Loftys in Evansdale, IA

Kevin Lavern Gaston, with his laughter, stories, and unwavering love for family and friends, will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
