Larry Welcher, 71, of Waterloo, Iowa, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2024, peacefully at his home in Waterloo. He was born June 6, 1953, in Waterloo, the son of Bill and Donna Jean Welcher. He attended Waterloo East High School. The family moved to Manchester in 1969, and Larry graduated from West Delaware High School in 1971.
After high school Larry served in the US Navy for 4 years. During his time in the Navy, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, and the First Good Conduct Medal. After his service he was a member of the Auxiliary Post 49 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He retired from the US Postal Service in 2009. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, antique shopping, and gun shows.
Survivors include Larry’s wife, Denice Welcher of Waterloo, his five children, Matt Welcher of Manchester, Travis Welcher of Manchester, Brett (Mikki) Welcher of Manchester, Brad (Amy) Welcher of Ankeny, Mary Jo Welcher (Travis Olson) of Manchester; sister, Vickie (Mike) Beatty; 13 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren; 1 niece and 5 nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Donna Jean; his brother, Scott; his son, Wade; his granddaughter, Emma.
The family invites everyone to join them Friday, October 4, 2024 @ 11:00 A.M. for service at Garden of Memories, 3669 Logan Ave, Waterloo, IA, 50703; following the service a lunch will be held at the AMVET Post 49, 1934 Irving St. Cedar Falls, Iowa, 50313.
