Laura Myrtle Elizabeth Brackin

Laura Myrtle Elizabeth Brackin was born April 2, 1929, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of John and Dessie (Jaster) Bergmeier. She graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1947. Myrtle married John Brackin, Jr., on August 17, 1947, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, he preceded her in death on September 21, 1996. She loved her children and family. Myrtle enjoyed vacationing, karaoke, shopping, music and she was very big on Christmas. She participated in the East High Swing Shows and was inducted into the East High School Hall of Fame. Myrtle was a member of Linden United Methodist Church and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Auxiliary. She was the secretary for the Neighbor for Life Community Group and helped design the Lafayette Park playground.

Myrtle passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024, at her residence at the age of 95. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; two children, Gerald Brackin and Dolene Reichenbacker; a great-grandson, Braydon Lindquist; a daughter-in-law, Shari Brackin and seven brothers and sisters.

Myrtle is survived by her children, John (Kathryn) Brackin of Waterloo, Sandra (Greg) Huff of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Dennis (Brenda) Brackin of Lamoni, Iowa and Rebecca Brackin of Waterloo, a son-in-law, Bob Reichenbacker; 23 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Visitation: Tuesday, June 4, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Parrott and Wood Chapel of Memories, 965 Home Plaza, Waterloo, and 9:30 am to 10:00 am, Wednesday at the church.

Funeral Service: Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at 10:00 am, at Linden United Methodist Church, 301 Butler St., Waterloo.

Burial to follow at Waterloo Cemetery.
