Laurie Gail Blanchard of Waterloo, Iowa, passed away at her home on Monday, June 15, 2026. She was 62 years old.

Born on December 31, 1963, Laurie was a beloved daughter of Cecil and Evelyn (Cutler) Blanchard. She spent her early years in the close-knit community of Aplington, where she blossomed into a bright and caring young woman. Laurie attended Aplington-Parkersburg High School and received her GED at Hawkeye Community College, a time when life’s paths began to intertwine beautifully for her. During those formative years, she met Dale, the father of her three cherished sons, a bond that shaped much of her life’s journey.

Laurie’s heart was always drawn to nurturing others. She initially pursued nursing in college, a testament to her caring spirit, but she chose to pause her studies to dedicate herself fully to motherhood— a role she embraced with profound love and devotion. Beyond her role as a devoted mom, Laurie’s work ethic led her through various roles, including seasonal help at Petersen and Tietz, working as a lab technician for Medicoat, and even cleaning banks and clinics. Every position reflected her determination and commitment to contribute meaningfully to her community.

Her warmth extended into her leisure time, where she found joy and comfort in the simple pleasures of life. Laurie had a fondness for classic television shows — from the wholesome charm of The Andy Griffith Show, to the timeless humor of Leave It to Beaver, and the laughter and wit of her all-time favorite, Mama’s Family. She was also an avid gardener, delighting in planting flowers and nurturing plants that brightened her surroundings.

Most of all, Laurie's heart shone brightest when she was with her family. She adored her grandchildren, sharing laughter and creativity in coloring sessions that brought joy to her days almost as much as her beloved Pepsi did. Laurie treasured the sanctuary of her home, where she found peace in quiet moments and restful naps that refreshed her spirit.

Laurie was preceded in death by her loving parents, Cecil and Evelyn; her stepfather, Les Fredrickson; her brother Jim Blanchard; and the father of her children, Dale. Though these loved ones have passed on, Laurie’s memory is lovingly carried forward by those who remain.

She leaves behind her three sons: Scott Schrage of Waterloo, IA; Stephen Schrage of Des Moines, Iowa; and Robert Schrage of LaPorte City, IA. Laurie is also survived by her brother, Joel Blanchard of Mississippi, and four precious grandchildren, Christian, Elizabeth, Andrew, and Dillinger Schrage who carried her love into the next generation. Her beloved cat, Jasper, was a faithful companion who will miss her gentle presence.

A visitation to honor Laurie’s memory will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Lighthouse Baptist Church, located at 300 Ralston Rd, Waterloo, IA. Following the visitation, a funeral service will commence at 1:00 p.m. at the same location. The day will conclude with a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, 5628 Waverly Rd, Cedar Falls, IA.

Laurie Gail Blanchard’s life, marked by her steadfast love and gentle soul, will continue to inspire and warm the hearts of all who knew her. Her legacy is one of devotion, simplicity, and a deeply felt tenderness that made every day brighter for those around her. She will be deeply missed, forever cherished, and lovingly remembered.
