Loretta Mae
Moody
Jun 17, 1934 — Sep 22, 2026
Loretta Mae Moody passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at Emery Place in Robbins, Iowa. She was 92.
Loretta was born on June 17, 1934, in a farmhouse in Washburn, Iowa, to Lauren and Lulu (Schaler) Griswold. She attended Orange Township High School and graduated in 1952. During her school years, she shared her gifts as a talented piano player and sang in the chorus, early signs of the warmth, dedication, and creativity that would remain with her throughout her life.
After high school, Loretta began working for Blacks Department Store in payroll and later for Raths as a secretary. On July 11, 1954, she married Everett Moody. Following their wedding, Loretta and Everett moved to South Carolina while Everett completed his time in the Air Force. They later returned to Iowa and built their home and family together, welcoming five children: Kathy, Georgia, Ronald, Patricia, and Dennis. Everett preceded her in death on January 6, 1999. Together they shared nearly 45 years of marriage.
Loretta was a talented and hardworking woman who brought her abilities in cooking, waitressing, and office work to Sears, where she worked in the service department for 10 years before retiring. Beyond her work, she found deep joy in the simple and beautiful parts of life. Her happy place was outdoors in her garden. She also loved cooking, baking, and quilting, and she was active in her church, Grace Baptist. Those who knew her will remember a woman of many gifts, steady devotion, and a life shaped by both faith and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Moody; her parents, Lauren and Lulu Griswold; and her many siblings.
Loretta’s memory will be cherished by her children: Kathy Braun and her husband Gary of Colorado, Georgia Hoppenworth and her husband Neil of Iowa, Ronald Moody and his wife Loly of California, Patricia Tichenor and her husband Stuart of Virginia, and Dennis Moody of Iowa. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and many other beloved family members who will carry her love and example forward.
A visitation will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Parrott and Wood Funeral Home. Loretta will be laid to rest at Garden of Memories following the visitation.
Loretta Mae Moody will be remembered with love for her caring heart, her many talents, and the family she held so close. Her life was one of quiet strength, faithful service, and enduring love, and her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew her.
