Marcia Josephine (Sampica) Halverson a cherished wife, devoted mother, loving grandmother and great-granny passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Monday, July 20, 2026, at the age of 82. Marcia’s gentle spirit was lifted peacefully from this world to join the choir of Heaven as she was greeted by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 

Born on March 12, 1944, in Hartford, Wisconsin to Ernest and Amanda (White) Sampica. Marcia was the youngest of fourteen children—a life shaped by the warmth and togetherness of a large and loving family. The Sampica household, later settled in Maywood, Iowa. Her home echoed with the laughter and stories of her beloved mother, thirteen siblings, her buck sheep, and horse Goldie.

Marcia married Corky Halverson Sr. on October 29, 1960 in Waterloo, IA after she whistled at him as he walked down her street. That spontaneous gesture grew into a life long love. Marcia and Corky celebrated 65 years of marriage, a testament to their bond and the joys they shared. Together, they raised three beloved children: Angel, Corky Jr. (Judy), and April.

Marcia worked outside the home in her younger years, but her calling came from being a housewife and mother. Her deepest fulfillment was found in the daily family life, cooking delicious meals, hosting lively gatherings, and sharing laughter around the kitchen table. She felt happiest when her home was filled with the presence of her family. Every visit was treasured, every hug cherished. She tended lovingly to her garden, cared for vibrant flowers, enjoyed visits from the birdies at her bird feeder, and found quiet contentment in reading the Bible and other books, journaling and writing poetry, even having published a few poems she’d written herself. Many evenings were spent watching cowboy shows and Wheel of Fortune with her husband and daughter April. Faith in God anchored her life, and her faith was a guiding light through all of life’s joys and challenges. She enjoyed spreading the good word of God, and telling people how much Jesus loved them. She was a walking example of God’s love and kindness.

Preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Amanda; her brothers, Gerald, Bernard, Regis, and David; seven sisters, Catherine, Bernice, Ruth, Grace, Theresa, Joyce, and Mary; and her sweet dog Buddy. Marcia’s absence is deeply felt. Yet, her love endures in those she leaves behind: her loving husband, Corky; her children Angel, Corky Jr. (Judy), and April; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy; her two sisters whom were her best friends Phyllis (John) Derifield of Waterloo and Gloria Juan of Granite City, California, her beloved nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends whose lives she touched with her kindness and warmth. She formed a special unique bond with everyone. Marcia’s gentle heart, unwavering faith, and unconditional love will be forever remembered.

To honor Marcia’s beautiful life, a service will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at Parrott & Wood Funeral Home at 965 Home Plaza in Waterloo with public visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the same location. Burial services at Mt Olivet in Waterloo.   Memorials may be directed to the family or St. Jude in her honor.
