Marlene Ann Riley was born April 21, 1936, in Stilson, Iowa, the daughter of Reu and Ann (Slagle) Terpstra. She graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1954. Marlene was married to Raymond Riley, on January 4, 1959; he preceded her in death on April 14, 2005. She worked at Rath Packing until their son, Tim, was born. Marlene took pride in being a mother, homemaker, and wife to her husband. She enjoyed cooking, hosting, and music. Often, you would find her in the kitchen singing to country music, especially Toby Keith and Johnny Cash. Marlene loved telling stories, particularly about her adventures with Raymond. She enjoyed fishing and gardening. She also enjoyed making treats, doing crafts, playing, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Marlene died on October 15, 2025, at her home, at the age of 89. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond and brother, Charles Terpstra. Marlene is survived by her son, Tim Riley of Waverly; two grandchildren, Emily (Ryan) Swalve and Nicholas Riley; two great-grandchildren. McCoy Swalve and Mayla Riley and a sister, Burnita Porchet of Waterloo.
