Maudie Jean Dougherty

January 21, 1929 — May 12, 2025

Hudson

Maudie Jean Dougherty was born on January 21, 1929, in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of Vern and Jessie (Wallace) Compton. Maudie aspired to be a wife and mother one day. She met the love of her life James Doughtery, and they were married on April 16, 1949. They went on to enjoy 69 years of married life. Maudie was known for her magnificent cooking and baking talents. During the Christmas season she would make all the Christmas candy for her family. She was known for always keeping a tidy home and despite her many responsibilities as a wife and mother she still made time to watch her favorite soap operas during the week and also reading in her spare time. Life was not always easy for Maudie. No matter what challenges came her way she would respond with a resiliency that was noticed and admired by others.

Maudie passed away on Monday May 12, 2025, at Parkview Manor in Reinbeck, Iowa at the age of 96. She was preceded in death her parents; her beloved husband James; a sister Barabara Ann Compton who died in infancy; her son in law David Meggers and a brother-in-law Harold Payne.

Maudie is survived by her loving daughters Diane Meggers, Rhonda (Robert) Gutknecht, Linda (Lon) Boyers and Karen (David) Broeker; her grandchildren Joshua ((Danielle) Meggers, Nicole (Richard) Castle, Amanda Hanson, Kayla (Cory) Gutknecht-Wellman, Jennifer Gutknecht and Rebekka Broeker; a great granddaughter Zooey Meggers; a sister Marian Payne and three nephews.
