Osa Juanita Butikofer was born March 21, 1931, in Creswell, Oregon, daughter of Warren and Ivy (Dresdan) Hill. She grew up in Elkader, and graduated from Elkader High School. During high school, Osa attended art school in Chicago. She married Lyle Butikofer on February 3, 1951, at the West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont, Iowa; he preceded her in death on February 21, 2020. Osa worked various jobs with Alladin, American Heritage, John Deere and Sieberts. She also taught Sunday School at the Central Assembly of God Church in Waterloo.
Osa enjoyed flower gardening, decorating and hosting holidays in her home. She was an avid walker who loved being outdoors. Most of all, Osa loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Osa passed away on Friday, November 14, 2025, at her daughters home, at the age of 94. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, George and Warren, Jr.; five sisters, Dorothy, Irene, Bess, Iowa and Eva; son-in-law, Steve Mummelthie and daughter-in-law, Patricia Butikofer. Osa is survived by four sons, Lyle (Lisa) Butikofer of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, Mark Butikofer of Waterloo, Steven (Kristi) Butikofer of Waterloo and Kevin (Tammy) Butikofer of Waterloo; daughter, Linda Mummelthie of Evansdale; nine grandchildren, Niki (Sam) Annis, Ursula Duncan, Joey Butikofer, Olivia Butikofer, Jennifer Rothlein, Stacy Wilson, Dew Wilson, Jaime Berry and Ben Butikofer nine step-grandchildren, John (Liz Franklin)Loomis, Jim Trower, Malasia (Rick) Ray, Chad Sohn, Mindy(Ryan) Wilson, Melainie (Dan) Payne, Michelle Allen, Brandy Lyda and Stephanie (Ryan) Hall; 27 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside Service will be on Monday, November 17, 2025, at 2:00 pm, at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
