Patricia Louise Stanhope

Patricia Louise Stanhope, 96, of Waterloo, IA died August 4, 2025, at Friendship Village. Pat was born July 30, 1929, in Davenport, IA, the daughter of William and Gladys (Dawson) Arildsen. She was a 1947 graduate of East High School and then attended the Iowa State Teacher’s College, present day UNI. Pat married Edward Stanhope on May 7, 1950. He preceded her in death on January 26, 2018.

Pat cherished many things throughout her life from collecting antiques, to sewing, quilting, their Sans Souci home, bike riding, and spending many summers at the family’s Minnesota cabin. She also enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and neighbors. Anyone that knew Pat also knew of her love for Hershey bars and the color blue.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Edward and her son-in-law Michael Morelock. Pat was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church in Waterloo and participated in several church groups. She retired from John Deere in 1993. Over the years, she was a member of several organizations including Junior Women’s Club, T.T.T. Society, Questers, Funtique, Trolley Trackers, Rainbow Cyclists and participated on the original SAGBRAI followed by many years of RAGBRAI. She enjoyed working at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, GA. Pat is survived by her children, Jeff (Jan) Stanhope of Washburn, IA, Julie Stanhope of Lillian, AL and Jill (Roger) Baker of Waverly, IA; her seven grandchildren Todd (Manda) Stanhope, Bethany Stanhope, Bryan Morelock, Jackie (Mark) Mitchell, Joe Baker, Julie (Daniel) Hanawalt and Jon Baker; her seven precious great grandchildren Sawyer, Lawson & Meadow Stanhope and Calvin, Colin and Conor Hanawalt, and John Michael Mitchell; and one brother Dick Arildsen.

Pat's family would also like to thank the staff at Friendship Village for all the love and care they gave Pat through the past few years.

Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
