Pauline Sweaney Cush Kehoe of Waterloo, IA, passed away gracefully on May 18, 2025 under the care of Ravenwood Specialty Care at the age of 100.
Pauline was born during the depression to John and Alice (Thomas) Sweaney, on March 26, 1925, in Iowa. During World War II, Pauline graduated from Delhi High School in 1944. After graduation, she married Leonard Cush. Pauline and Leonard moved to East Dubuque and worked in an ammunition factory together. During this time, they had two children, Stephen and Larry. When the war ended, Pauline and her family moved to Manchester on a farm, where she took pride in farming with Leonard. In 1960 after 16 years of marriage Leonard unfortunately passed away.
In 1962, Pauline met Jerry and were married in Manchester, IA, December 26, 1964. They later moved to Washington, where they both worked for Canterbury Inn. Pauline also worked for Ocean Shores Inn where she was responsible for organizing and planning the hotel’s conventions and banquets which she did with passion. She retired from the hotel industry after 25 years. In 2003, Pauline and Jerry moved back to Waterloo to be closer to family and the community they loved.
Pauline was a kind and compassionate person who never hesitated to help others. Her family was her greatest joy, and she treasured every moment spent with them. She especially enjoyed quilting, creating beautiful quilts that her loved ones will continue to cherish.
Pauline is survived by her husband Jerry Kehoe of Waterloo, IA; her sons Stephen (Cynthia) Cush of La Quinta, CA; and Larry (Nancy) Cush of Joshua Tree, CA; her three grandchildren Christina (Dave) Cush Sterling of Tacoma, WA; Ian Cush of Joshua Tree, CA; and Shelly (Nathan) Ober of Joshua Tree, CA; and two great-grandchildren, Blyne and Wilhelmina.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents John and Alice Sweaney; her first husband Leonard Cush; one grandson, Brian Cush; and her eight siblings, Allen, Rodney, Clayton, Margaret, Warren, Alba, Thelma and Clarence.
Visitation will be held May 22, 2025, from 10:30 A.M to 11:30 A.M, at Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church, 1207 Kimball Ave, Waterloo, Iowa 50702
Service will be May 22, 2025, at 11:30 A.M, at Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church, 1207 Kimball Ave, Waterloo, Iowa 50702
