Robert James Lane

Robert (Bob) Lane went to Heaven on July 24, 2025, at the age of 86, at Unity PointAllen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. Bob was born on August 25, 1938, in Iowa City, Iowa to Melvin and Mabel (Farr) Lane. Bob graduated from Waterloo West High School and then served in the Army National Guard for six years. After his discharge, he began his career at John Deere where he was a devoted worker until his retirement. Bob married the love of his life, Deanna Rose Appel, at First Lutheran Church on January 20, 1961. Bob, Dee, and their children enjoyed camping, going on family trips to Minnesota and Canada. They were both animal lovers from dogs, and cats to birds. Mojoe was their last companion and took care of Bob after Dee passed on July 31, 2012. 

Bob loved fishing, and if you couldn’t find him, you could rest assured he was fishing. Bob’s passions in his later years were watching football, baseball, and NASCAR races. The Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears were his two favorite teams. Bob loved his steak and potato dinners at the AmVets Post 31 in Evansdale, Iowa and enjoyed taking his family to dinners there as well.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Dee, and his brother-in-law Richard Foote. Bob is lovingly survived by his children, Debbie (Steph) Benschoter, and Darrin Lane both of Waterloo; two grandsons, Eric Kent and Bo Fertch; 1 great-grandchild, Deanna Kent; his sister-in-law Jenny Appel Foote; his nephews, Randy (Dinah) Foote and Russell (Andrea) Foote; and his nieces, Robin (Joe) Duran and Roxanne (Rusty) Bausch.

A visitation will be held at Parrott and Wood funeral home on Friday August 1, 2025, from 11:00 am-12:00 pm. Burial and a short graveside ceremony officiated by Pastor Scott H. Strachan Jr at the Garden of Memories in Waterloo.

May Bob rest now in peace with Christ our Lord and join his beloved wife once again. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Bob’s name to the hospice unit at UnityPoint Allen Hospital.
