Ronald Don Bowers of Waterloo, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the age of 88, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 31, 1938, in Charleston, West Virginia, Ron was the son of Cecil and Jean (Dandy) Bowers. He grew up in West Virginia and proudly completed his education at Richwood High School.

Following his graduation, Ron answered the call of duty and served his country with honor in the United States Navy for four years. His commitment to service shaped much of his character and discipline, instilling values that remained with him throughout his life.

After completing his military service, Ron's path led him to a cherished lifelong partnership. He met Betty Malcomb, his next-door neighbor, and the two quickly became inseparable. Their bond culminated in marriage on June 15, 1958, and together they celebrated 67 remarkable years of love and companionship.

In 1959, Ron and Betty relocated to Waterloo, Iowa, where they began raising their family. Throughout his working years, Ron embraced a variety of roles, contributing his skills and dedication in several capacities. He held positions in Case Management in Burlington, Iowa, and with Bill Karr Tuckpointing, before finding his long-term career at John Deere. As a Tool Die Maker, Ron devoted 31 years to his craft before retiring.

An avid outdoorsman, Ron found joy in fishing, golfing, hunting, and all manner of outdoor pursuits. At home, he was frequently found in the garage, engrossed in his many tools, a testament to his handyman spirit and love for hands-on projects. Above all else, Ron treasured his family, drawing immense happiness and pride from time spent with loved ones.

Ronald Don Bowers was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Jean Bowers; his brother, Joe Bill Bowers; and a grandson, Justin Jones.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Betty Bowers of Waterloo, Iowa; his son Ron Bowers Jr., and daughter-in-law Lori, who reside in Cedar Falls, Iowa; two daughters, Rhonda Bowers and Brenda Shelton, both of Waterloo, Iowa; three grandchildren, Alyssa, Evan, and Ashley; and two great-grandchildren, Myah and Dominic. Ron’s life was also enriched by countless family members and friends who held him in their hearts.

At this time, no services are scheduled for Ron. Family and friends cherish his memory and honor a life marked by dedication, love, and quiet strength. Ronald Don Bowers leaves behind a legacy of loyalty—to country, family, and community—that will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
