Velda Mae Sterrett

Velda Mae Sterrett was born May 20, 1926, in Denver, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Brunscheon) Schmidt. She graduated from Waterloo East High School. Velda was united in marriage to Wade Sterrett on June 14, 1947, at the First Lutheran Church; he preceded her in death on January 22, 2002.

Velda worked in various offices in administration. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she was active in the choir, Lydia Circle, Prayer Chain, Key Club and taught Sunday School.

Velda passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025, at NewAldaya, at the age of 99. She is preceded in death by her husband; a granddaughter, Jennifer Sterrett; brother, Floyd Schmidt and a sister, Darlys Schmitt. Velda is survived by son, Mark (Cindy) Sterrett of Athens, Alabama; four grandchildren: Penny, Krista, Eric (Carolyn) and Mark Jr.; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren and a brother Don Schmidt of Grundy Center.

Visitation: Wednesday, July 23, 2025, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, 965 Home Plaza.

Service: Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at 1:00 pm At Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories.

Burial: Waterloo Memorial Park following services.
