Verna Jean Mingus

Verna Jean (Tomlinson) Grittmann Mingus passed away quietly in her sleep June 27th. She was 91.

Jean was the daughter of Vernon and Minnie Mae (Schafer)Tomlinson. Mother is survived by four sons Robert (Bert), Lee, Brian (Tanya), and Mark Grittmann. Together they gave Jean eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Ron Tomlinson and sister Cathy Knobloch living in southern Illinois where Jean grew up.

Her husbands, LeRoy Grittmann and Richard Mingus, and one grandson preceded her in death. Jean loved God and cherished her family more than anything else in life. She is remembered for a lifetime of devotion in Christ, singing Lutheran hymns and pop music when busy in the kitchen. While still raising four boys, Jean took night classes to gain her LPN in nursing and spent many years nursing at Saint Francis Hospital to help provide for her family. Following retirement, mother enjoyed a life of leisure traveling, playing cards, and connecting with friends at Landmark South. Jean treasured visits from her sons and grands.

Viewing will be at Parrott &Wood Funeral Home 965 Home Plaza, Waterloo on Saturday, 11th of July from 11 AM to 1 PM followed by services at 1 PM. Burial will be on 18th of July at 1 PM at the Monroe City, Illinois family cemetery.
