Virgil (Buddy) Kurdis Pyle, 58, of Waterloo, passed away at The Cedar Valley Hospice Home, from heart failure on April 30, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. He went to be with the Lord that day.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 9th at River’s Edge Christian Church, 1247 Cedar Bend Street, Waterloo, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the service at 11:00 a.m. Burial and committal services will follow with family at Oak Hill Cemetery in Nashua, Iowa.
Virgil was born on April 6, 1968, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Virgil Roy and Janice (Kuehne) Gorby. He attended school in Charles City, Iowa. On September 2, 2007, he married Chelsea Campbell. Together they built a family and welcomed two sons, along with two stepsons. The couple later divorced.
Virgil was a proud Christian and was baptized on July 29, 2009, at River’s Edge Christian Church by Pastor Tim Platt. He worked as a supervisor at XL Trailers in Manchester. He later worked as a diesel mechanic at Ruan Transport Inc. in Cedar Falls.
Virgil enjoyed watching his sons race motocross, camping with family, taking Carnival cruises with family, deer hunting with cousins, watching NASCAR, and spending time with those he loved most.
He is survived by his sons, Karsten and Wyatt Pyle of Waterloo; his stepsons, Phoenix Campbell of Cedar Falls and Jaxon Campbell of Waterloo; his brother, Terry Pyle of Globe, Arizona; half-brother, Chad (Melissa) Gorby of Waterloo; stepsister, Carol (Steve) Eagan of Charles City; stepbrother, Jerry (Ann) Pyle of Charles City; aunt, Judy (Randy) Covey of Ames; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Janice Petitt; father, Virgil Roy Gorby; stepfather, Eldon Pyle; stepbrother, Doug Pyle; grandmother, Edith Luders; step-grandfather, Vergal Luders; and grandfather, Malvin Kuehne.
The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, if you would like to make a memorial donation they can be made to the family or to River’s Edge Christian Church.
