Willie (Punkin) Mohorne III, my one and only cherished son, beloved brother of four sisters, and a proud member of the Cherokee Tribe peacefully began his journey to the ancestors on October 04, 2026 at 5:31 am surrounded by his family. He was born on January 30, 1970, in Iowa City, Iowa. He was a bright light on this earth always smiling and walked his path with a deep respect for his heritage.
Will, Willie, but mostly he was known as Punkin, grew up in Waterloo and attended St. John Elementary School graduating to Columbus Catholic High School and attending Kirkwood College for a period of time.
To know Punkin was to know a young man who was full of kindness, laughter, and love. He possessed a true passion for football having shown his skills throughout his years playing for the Columbus High School Sailors. Even though he experienced numerous sports injuries, he excelled in the sport. His perseverance was undeniably a trait that made him the man he is today. He was known and loved by many many people. His happiest moments were undeniably the times he spent with his children and family gatherings. Punkin’s family adored him completely.
Punkin is survived by traditional family his Mom, Margaret Glass- Cockhren, his siblings, Nahkia Mohorne, Quannah Mohorne, Shawnee’ Voshell, and Maryah Cockhren and his children Jesse Coughlin, Justina Snyder, Aslan Gray, Drake Mohorne, and Malichi Mohorne. Welcoming him to his resting place are Ancestors who have completed their journey before him; James (Jim) Cockhren (who raised him) and his grandparents (maternal and paternal).
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Punkin’s life will be held on October 23, 2026 from 3pm until 5pm at Parrot and Wood Funeral Home, located at 915 Home Plaza, Waterloo, Iowa. All family and all friends are welcome to attend.
